Can't Stop the Serenity is a charity event that supports Equality Now - an organization which works to end violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world. I talked about this event last year, but this year we got our hands (and stomachs) right into the thick of things. The beautiful organizers here in Vancouver allowed us to come along and bombard them with a whole table full of treats. Every single cent that we earned went to both Equality Now and the BC Women's Hospital. And, boy did we get to donate a lot - but we'll get to that later. First, the treats:
Of course, we couldn't leave Kaylee's all by themselves now, could we? Introducing The Vera - a cupcake with the same amount of bite as its namesake. Our regular dark chocolate devil's food cake got spiked with a good amount of cayenne pepper - enough cayenne pepper, in fact, to make a couple people sputter with glee. This was topped with a vanilla swiss buttercream to help cool your palate, and a last hit of poprocks. These actually sold out quicker than Kaylee's - next year we'll have to bring more!
These were our "I Swallowed a Bug" Brownies - chewy brownies at the bottom, peanut butter cups and roasted peanuts on top, and chocolate-peanut butter krispie treats stacked on top. Mr. C did all the cute little bugs on top, and we're very proud of him for separating out all the little candies out and piping every last one. These things were deadly, and seriously weighed a ton.
If you're following me on twitter (which you all should be!), you know that I got a giant package full of push pop containers not to long ago. Lately, we've been experimenting with what exactly we can stuff into them. This was experiment number three-twenty-two - rainbow jello spiked with ginger ale. They were beautiful - except when a kid took one and shot it across the room. That was just awesome.
We turned something beautiful and delicate - matcha white chocolate truffles and wasabi dark chocolate truffles - into something bold and bloody. Reavers are the Firefly/Serenity version of zombies. They will eat you alive, unless you do first. (Mmmm, chocolate)
Companion cookies - and by "companion", I mean a lovely lady you pay to keep you company. And by "keep you company" I mean sleep with you. The cookies are a little less slutty: cashew with cardamom and lime. They've still got quite the bite to them, don't worry.
"Curse Your Sudden But Inevitable Betrayal" Bites - if you need an explaination, look here. Please.
The best part of this all was how generous the audience was - because of them, C&C Cakery was able to raise $400. How cool is that?
We're doing a lot more nerdy charity bake sales coming up this summer as well (re: Arry-hay Otter-pay). That means so we've got a lot of more nerdy treats that will be shooting right at ya. If your charity is in need of some sweet treats, please feel free to email us. We will for sure fit you into our summer plans!
